On Juneteenth, we pause to honor a pivotal moment in American history – the commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States – and celebrate the enduring values of freedom, resilience, and opportunity.
At Habitat for Humanity Greater Orlando & Osceola County, we believe that stable, affordable housing is essential to building stronger families, neighborhoods and communities. Our office is closed today, as we observe Juneteenth and reflect on the progress made, the challenges that remain, and the work that continues to create opportunities for all.

In celebration of , we’re sharing the impact Habitat has had on Donya and her family. When Donya bought her home five years ago, her daughter had been expelled from public school and was working on getting herself back on track at an alternative school.
Fast forward to this spring, her daughter graduated from Evans High School as a member of the National Honor Society and the track team and the vice president of chorus. Her senior year was filled with scholarship offers and college acceptance letters. “Everything she touches turns to gold,” Donya said. It’s been a total 180 from before they moved into their home.
And she’s not alone. Evidence suggests that children in stable housing perform better academically due to:
🏫 Reduced school mobility
💭 Improved mental health
📚 Better access to learning resources

Congratulations to Stephanie for being proactive and taking charge of her finances!
If you live or work in Orange County you can schedule your own virtual or in-person financial counseling appointment at OrangeFEC.org
Meet Stephanie, a rising professional and recent University of Central Florida grad. With a limited understanding of finances and a short credit history, Stephanie knew it was time to begin her financial empowerment journey with the Financial Empowerment Center. She sought a greater sense of financial literacy to set herself up for success, and through a series of appointments with her counselor, Marlene, she:
✅Established a personalized budget plan for her situation
✅Started a high-yield savings account
✅Has an emergency fund for rainy days
✅Has greater confidence in navigating her finances
We're proud of you, Stephanie, for being proactive and empowering yourself so early in your career. Our Financial Empowerment Center serves all who live or work in Orange County as a free public service.
