Mayoral candidate Uribe gets pushback over decision to delay resignation
The Orange County commissioner is running for county mayor. If she waits until November to resign, choosing her successor could be in the hands of Gov. Ron DeSantis.

We had some questions for Commissioner Uribe at the Orange County Democratic meeting on Wednesday, May 20th. Her resignation to run for mayor is due on May 28, 2026. If the effective date in that letter is before August 1, 2026, there will be an election in District 3, which we've already qualified for. If not, Desantis has the opportunity to appoint someone to the board for 2 years. She has said she will not resign until December 7, 2026, which means an appointment is coming from a governor who does not respect Orange County, and who threatened to remove the whole board and put them in jail because he didnt like our policies. We ask you, the residents of district 3, do you want the right to vote for the commissioner for the next 2 years? Or are you comfortable with Desantis appointing your next commissioner. Please call Commossioner Uribe's office (407) 836-7350 (or email [email protected]) to voice your opinions and let her know how you feel. We at our campaign recognize the importance of the resign to run law, because it's difficult to maintain your official duties of your office, while running for another. We urge Commissioner Uribe to do the right thing and resign in time to protect and enable the democratic process, and to give those in District 3 a voice for their next Commissioner. this is a political message approved by Walker Smith, candidate for Orange County Commission district 3.

Its official!!! We've qualified and should appear on the ballot for August 18, 2026 for Orange County Commission District 3! We collected more petitions than anyone else in our race, and have officially qualified to be a candidate. Special shout out to 50501 Orlando, 50501 Orlando Latinos, as well as Orange County Democratic Environmental Caucus, who have all endorsed and in several ways been supportive of our Campaign! We especially thank our individual volunteers who've come out to knock doors, but it's not over yet. We've still got to continue raising money, and getting voters engaged, reminding them that our campaign is about getting ICE off our streets and keeping local power local, so we can focus on affordability, access to services, and protecting our environment. Right now we'll wait for may 28, 2026, to make sure that our election is going to happen. If Mayra Uribe does not resign from Commissioner of District 3 for her mayoral run by may 28, 2026, our election won't happen... and Desantis will get to appoint somebody to that seat for District 3 when she does. We're hoping to see a free, fair, and open election so that the people of district 3 not the politicians in Tallahassee, get to decide who represents them.

We are so proud to announce we have recieved the endorsement of the Oramge County Democratic Environmental Caucus! We have a strong platform to punish polluters (particularly repeat offenders) and raise revenue for the county while doing it. Simply put, exponential fee and fine increases for each subsequent offense of polluting our lakes and air, double the second time, triple the next, into perpetuity.
My native ancestry teaches that we should plan for the next seven generations, that we should grow sustainably, that we should never take more than necessary, and that we should not be wasteful or take our environment for granted. We are the stewards of the balance of this world, and we must take care of this Earth and all life on it, so that it may take care of us in return. I will fight to ensure our protected areas remain protected, that pollutors are punished severely, and I vow to govern with the next seven generations in mind.
Thanks for your support! Qualifying us almost here (May 11th, 2026) so if you live in Orange County and haven't signed a petition yet to get us on the ballot please do so. You can find and print them at Walker4d3.com or message us and we can get one to you directly.
We are proud to endorse Walker Smith! A staunch advocate for everyday working class citizens, Walker has a plan to stop corporations from destroying our land. Walker has creative ideas for fighting back, and that’s why he’s a great candidate.

I pledge not to take contributions over $200 from oil, gas, and coal industry executives, lobbyists, or PACs and instead prioritize the health of our families, climate, and democracy over fossil fuel industry profits.

Big congratulations to anyone and everyone who has contributed to the fight for dignity, respect, and more reasonable policy relating to immigration enforcement. After substantial abuse and commandeering by federal agencies, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners has finally and unanimously, agreed to end the ICE portion of their Intergovernmental Service Agreement! This is a massive victory! They will shift to a BOA, which means tighter rules, less time to hold, and ultimately more push back on a rogue federal agency and government. This is a great step for helping show our immigrant communities we have their back, to protect local autonomy, and a big step towards protecting dignity for those under attack by this administration. Thanks everyone for your hard work! Great result!
Orange County further restricts ICE’s use of its jail
The new agreement the county seeks states a person can be released after 48 hours if ICE hasn’t picked them up.
