Gamble’s Horticultural Team will be hosting a two-day plant sale on Friday, June 12 and Saturday, June 13. 🪴
Choose from a beautiful selection of edible and ornamental plants, many propagated right here at Gamble Garden. We offer a wide variety of annuals and perennials—including unique and hard-to-find varieties you won’t see in commercial nurseries.
Our team has years of experience making gardens grow, with educational backgrounds in environmental science, horticulture, biology, and plant science. Come chat with likeminded individuals, bring your gardening questions, and consider supporting Gamble through a purchase of a plant or packet of seeds. All are welcome to this free event! 🌱

Have you noticed the new bench installed in the herb garden? 🌿
Thanks to Jeanne and Mike Althouse’s generosity, you can enjoy the sun on your face while reading Mary Oliver’s poetry collection in a lovely corner of the garden.
Start your day in happiness and in kindness 🌞

Our Africa Bed in the Edible Garden is just teeming with life 🌱
The photos capture two months of development as the plants fill out and up!
At Gamble Garden, we believe in showing the full transition of growth starting from young seedlings; even if it does mean mostly seeing soil for several weeks.
Visitors come to Gamble to see the garden in full bloom throughout the growing season, but having everything perfectly curated and replaced right away with fully grown plants in our annual garden beds feels unachievable by most urban gardeners.
We want to set realistic expectations and showcase every stage of life at Gamble. Plus, seeing the growth from week to week and how each garden bed transforms is part of the fun!
This summer in the Edible Garden, we have beds with plants from five regions: Africa, Asia, South America, North America, and the Fertile Crescent. Follow along as we share updates on crop development as the season turns!

We welcomed Walter Hays Elementary School to Gamble for a day of learning through our Roots & Shoots program.
The students learned about flower dissection, pollinator diversity, and how to build their very own bee! 🐝
They even had the chance to fly their insects around the garden to help pollinate the flora. 🌼 Lizzy Bee was there to supervise of course!
Roots & Shoots is a garden-based science field trip program for second and third grade elementary school students. Students learn about nature, ecology, the environment, and community through hands-on exploration in the garden. 🌱
The Roots & Shoots curriculum is tied to the California state science standards and utilizes every aspect of Gamble Garden’s exceptional garden as its learning laboratory. 🧠
Students work in small groups with our talented volunteers to learn about the world around them and experience the wonder of nature. 🌿
Our very own garden director participated in our Roots & Shoots program as a kid which inspired him to pursuit a career in Ecology and eventually lead the horticulture team at Gamble!
The Roots & Shoots program nurtures the next generation, as a visit to Gamble could be the catalyst that inspires our future leaders, visionaries, and change-makers. There’s a lot that can be learned from a garden 🪴
