Today is National Typewriter Day ⌨️! Within the Virginia Hamilton Adair Papers is an Olympia typewriter that Adair used following the loss of her sight in 1992. With assistance from friend and fellow Claremont poet Robert Mezey, Adair used the typewriter to write poetry and published a book titled Ants on the Melon (1996). The book made Time Magazine's Best Seller list in 1996. Adair would go on to publish Beliefs and Blasphemies (1998) and Living on Fire (2000).

For this year’s University Library Pride Display, library folks Catherina and Erik combined LA Pride’s 2026 theme, “Rise with Pride,” with a celebration of music, particularly dance and house music, and the underground communities and cultures that helped shape these genres. The display explores how dance music, rave culture, and house music are deeply intertwined with LGBTQ+ history. Emerging from communities that rose in the face of exclusion and adversity, these movements continue to inspire and evolve today. Whether through personal expression, finding belonging in shared spaces, or connecting through music, the values of unity, freedom, and community remain at the heart of these cultures. Their legacy lives on through the music, spaces, and communities that continue to uplift, empower, and bring people together.
