Provo City Council Meeting | June 17, 2026

Photos from Provo City Council's post 06/16/2026

On Saturday, Provo citizens gathered at Slate Canyon Park to learn about the proposed conservation easement and celebrate its progress.

The easement to protect 115 acres from commercial and residential development is possible by partnering with nonprofit land trust Utah Open Lands.

Conserve Utah Valley worked quickly to raise the $10,000 stewardship fee. The nonprofit presented awards to major donors, and led visitors on a hike while teaching them about the canyon. (Think all wasps sting? Slate Canyon is home to pollen wasps, vegetarians that help pollinate plants just like bees.).

Thank you to the many others who attended and voiced their opinions, and to city staff who are working on the easement now.

"Provo is going to grow, it's going to keep growing, and I think as we grow it's important that we give people places to get away from the bustle of the city." — Jeff Whitlock, District 2 Councilor

Next up: The City Council plans to hold a public hearing in late summer 2026 to authorize the Mayor to finalize the easement.

A Council meeting on a Wednesday? Yes, you read that right. The Council will meet on Wednesday, June 17th at 5:30pm to adopt property tax rates before the June 22nd deadline.

Provo City is not pursuing a property tax increase. However, what you pay may change based on other taxing entities and the value of your home as assessed by the County Auditor. Learn about property taxes at tax.utah.gov/propertytax.
