Supporting others is powerful work, but it can come with a cost.

Compassion fatigue is often called the “cost of caring” the emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion that can develop when we spend our days helping people navigate trauma, crisis, and recovery. This Workforce Multiplier Series training will help peer support professionals recognize the warning signs of burnout, secondary trauma, and compassion fatigue while building practical tools for resilience, self-care, and healthy boundaries.

The Workforce Multiplier Series is supported through the Opioid Response Network (ORN), funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and provides free training and technical assistance to strengthen the recovery workforce nationwide.

For people of reproductive age, drug-induced deaths rank among the leading causes of death, and the first year postpartum is an especially high-risk window for those with opioid use disorder.

This new publication from SAMHSA highlights best practices for managing OUD during and after pregnancy, presenting an innovative program as a case study with practical guidance for providers and care teams on collaborative perinatal care, continuity of care, and healthy outcomes for mothers and infants.

Stay informed on the latest updates from Nevada Medicaid! 📢

Nevada Medicaid has released an updated Informational Bulletin on Medications and Services for Substance Use Disorders (SUD), providing a vital roadmap for providers and teams working in the recovery space.

This guide covers all six Nevada health care plans, including Fee-for-Service (FFS) and Managed Care Organizations like Anthem, Health Plan of Nevada, SilverSummit, Molina, and CareSource.

What does this mean for your practice?
▶️ Streamlined Pharmacy Coverage: Effective January 1, 2026, Nevada Medicaid transitioned to a Single Preferred Drug List (sPDL), making it easier to track which medications for opioid and alcohol dependence are covered.
▶️ Clear Authorization Guidelines: The bulletin outlines specific Prior Authorization (PA) requirements and Quantity Limits (QL) for life-saving treatments like Naloxone and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) options.
▶️ Residential Care Insights: It provides a detailed breakdown of authorization windows for ASAM Residential Levels of Care (3.1, 3.5, and 3.7) across all plans.
▶️ Administrative Reminders: Ensure your team is verifying recipient eligibility and that all servicing providers are enrolled in the FFS system to avoid service interruptions.

Staying up-to-date on these policies ensures that we can continue to provide seamless, evidence-based care to those who need it most.

Check the full bulletin for the latest links to the Medicaid Services Manual and billing guides.

S3 E4: We Can’t Hide Our Humanness: Holding Stories and the Cost of Caring - The Nevada Opioid Center of Excellence (NOCE) 06/12/2026

In this episode of The NOCE Dose, Bianca D. McCall sits down with Dr. Trudy Gilbert-Elliott, trauma specialist and clinician working alongside first responders and crisis teams, for a deeply human conversation about the cost of caring.

Dr. Trudy unpacks what happens when exposure to crisis becomes cumulative, and how easily helpers can lose connection to themselves in the process.

At the heart of this conversation are two powerful truths: we can’t hide our humanness, and too often, we are the only ones keeping someone’s story safe.

Together, they explore the importance of psychological safety, trusted relationships, and the internal “checklists” that help us recognize when we’ve crossed the line from present to performing. This episode also highlights the weight of holding others’ stories in isolation—and why healing cannot happen without connection.

Grounded in both clinical expertise and lived experience, this conversation is a reminder that being human is not a liability in this work, it’s the very thing that makes healing possible.
