Happy Juneteenth! Today, we celebrate freedom, resilience, and the enduring strength of the African American community. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

As we recognize this important day in our nation’s history, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the meaning of freedom, honor those who came before us, and celebrate the progress that has been made while continuing to work toward a more equitable future for all.

In observance of Juneteenth, Community Services Agency offices will be closed on Friday, June 19. Wishing our community a meaningful and reflective Juneteenth. ✨

What a wonderful day celebrating the end of another successful school year and the incredible people who make Community Services Agency’s mission possible!

Our annual Summer Picnic brought together staff from across the agency to recognize the hard work, dedication, and impact of our teams. We celebrated our Head Start classrooms and the students who have grown, learned, and thrived throughout the year, the employees who support individuals and families through Workforce Development, Weatherization, and New Initiatives programs, and the hard work of our awesome administrative and fiscal staff.

Kristen has been with CSA for 2.5 years and her favorite part of the job is the beginning of each day when the toddlers arrive to class excited to see their teachers and give them hugs!

McKenzie has been with CSA almost a year and her favorite part of the job is her co-workers who make every day fun!

From recovery to rebuilding a future!

After completing the Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission recovery program, one local resident came to Community Services Agency ready for a fresh start. Matthew was interested in pursuing employment and job training while rebuilding his life after more than a year without work.

With support for bus passes, uniforms, and training supplies, he took the next steps toward stability and success. Since enrolling, he has:

✅ Earned his EMT certification
✅ Obtained employment at Renown as an EKG Technician
✅ Begun firefighter training at TMCC
✅ Purchased a car and continued working toward permanent housing

Today, he’s on track toward a career in firefighting with valuable medical experience that also opens doors in healthcare. Stories like this are a reminder that with determination, support, and opportunity, lives can change. We’re proud to walk alongside our neighbors on their journey toward self-sufficiency and brighter futures.

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage and dedication will never be forgotten.

In observance of Memorial Day, our offices will be closed on Monday, May 25. We will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, May 26.

Felicia is proud of her family and their actions to continue growing in their education, careers, health, and personal lives!

Did you know that in addition to installing energy efficient retrofits in homes across Northern Nevada, the The Assistance Program can also address safety issues impacting the residents? Across Northern Nevada the program is reducing energy costs for low-income families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities and helping to ensure that homes are healthy and safe!
