Generative Artificial Intelligence (G*I)- technology allows a user to create new images, videos, audio and text based on user requests or prompts. This technology has many benefits but also poses potential threats to child safety. G*I allows predators to use any image your child posts on social media of themselves and turn it into a CSAM image, depicting your child in an explicit manner. This means predators no longer need to trick your child into sending the predator an actual explicit photo of themselves anymore, due to G*I.
Understanding the Issues:
Some of the possible challenges you and your child may encounter with G*I include the circulation of misinformation or its use to bully or harass others. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) is especially concerned about the growing use of G*I tools to sexually exploit children. Risks Include:
1️⃣ G*I Child S*xual Abuse Material (G*I CSAM): Illegal, sexual exploitation material depicting children, created or altered using G*I.
2️⃣ Peer Victimization: Creation or circulation of n**e or sexually explicit G*I content among classmates, often created with “nudify” apps, that could be used to bully, harass, exploit or degrade classmates.
3️⃣ Online Enticement: Creation of fake online accounts to target children with the intent to commit a sexual offense.
4️⃣ S*xtortion: Blackmailing children with G*I CSAM or n**e images for money or to coerce them to provide additional explicit content or engage in sexual activity.

Roblox Safety Tech Tip: Roblox is a popular online gaming platform that is crawling with predators because they know young children play it. You can make a parental account in Roblox and link it to your child’s account to manage settings remotely. Content restrictions: Roblox now labels games by maturity level (Minimal, Mild, Moderate, Restricted), allowing precise control over what your child can access. You can also view and block friends, monitor who your child is interacting with and restrict chats with strangers. You can also set daily screen time limits in Roblox.

Why are we moving this conversation?
If your child is chatting/messaging on a social media or gaming application and is asked to move the conversation to an end to end encrypted application such as What’s App, Sessions, Telegram or Zangi, this should be concerning. This is predator behavior. The predator wants to isolate your child to communicate with them privately. Your child should block this person and stop communicating with them immediately.

S*xtortion: What is it? According to National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) S*xtortion is a form of child sexual exploitation where children are threatened or blackmailed, often with the threat of sharing n**es or sexual images, by the perpetrators who demand money, additional sexual content, or sexual acts. This crime may happen when a child has shared an image with someone or when someone creates fake explicit content of the child.
