Mississippi police murdered a 1 year old Black baby 5 days before Juneteenth. Police were responding to a call that alleged Kohen's mother was shoplifting diapers. Instead of playing into the distraction of good victim, bad victim narratives, we affirm that NO ONE should be murdered by law enforcement - whether they have been committed of a crime, are in jail awaiting sentencing, or simply cannot afford baby supplies.
We should be asking ourselves: why can't people afford essentials when we are seeing the existence of Earth's first trillionaire? Why do police continue to execute Black people at nearly 3x the rate they do white people? Can this system, rooted in slave catching patrols and protecting wealth, really be reformed?

Last month, our Outreach team completed their circuit, returning to our home base of Riverside! Unfortunately, our team hit a record LOW in the # of care kits distributed to our unhoused neighbors. When we don't have enough supplies like hygiene items, socks, and snacks, that means we're able to reach less people - at a time when they need the most support.
That's why we're calling on YOU to help collect items and raise funds for our care kits - not just one time, but every week/month. We're able to build trust and strong relationships with our unhoused neighbors only by showing up for them consistently, and we need your help to keep doing so. We ask that you share this and drop some items off if you are able. Thank you for your trust and support for us as we work to keep our people on the streets safe and healthy.
