Waste & Recycling Workers Week Spotlight: Why the Uniform Matters 🦺
Have you ever wondered why our Solid Waste team wears bright uniforms while out on their routes?
Their high-visibility uniforms are an important safety tool that helps them stay visible to motorists, pedestrians, and coworkers while working along busy streets and roadways. Combined with other safety equipment and training, these uniforms help protect our crews as they collect trash and recycling throughout the community.
The next time you see a member of the City of Salisbury Solid Waste Team, remember that their uniform is more than just work attire, it's part of keeping them safe while they provide an essential service to our community.

Small actions can make a big difference for our waterways!
Rainwater flows across streets, driveways, and yards, picking up pollutants like litter, pet waste, fertilizers, oil, and chemicals before carrying them into storm drains and local streams.
Help prevent stormwater pollution by:
🐾 Picking up pet waste
🗑️ Properly disposing of trash
🌱 Using fertilizers and pesticides responsibly
🚗 Fixing vehicle leaks
🍂 Keeping leaves and yard waste out of storm drains
Only rain down the drain!

Hangers are often made of mixed materials or a type of plastic that is NOT accepted in our curbside recycling carts. Consider donating gently used hangers and trash broken ones. Hang around for more recycling tips!

Don’t get tangled up in recycling the wrong things! Tanglers such as holiday lights, hoses, and cords get wrapped around machinery at the recycling sorting facility. Instead, place these items in the trash.

Rain in the forecast? Hold off on fertilizing your lawn!
When fertilizer is applied before a heavy rain, it can wash off your yard and flow into storm drains. Unlike water from sinks and toilets, stormwater is not treated before it reaches our local streams, rivers, and lakes.
Excess fertilizer in waterways can lead to algae growth, poor water quality, and harm to aquatic life.

Plastic bags, films and flexible packaging are NOT accepted in curbside recycling. These materials tangle up the machinery at the recycling processing facility!
Place your plastics bags, film, and flexible packaging in your trash cart, or you can drop it off at a local grocery store to recycle. Grocery stores send flexible plastic material to a separate facility for processing.
