Shannon Medical Center administrators visited the jail to present the Safety First Award to several nurses in recognition of their exceptional actions that helped prevent further harm to one of our officers.
On May 20th, these dedicated nurses responded to a medical emergency during a defensive tactics training session for Sheriff’s Office employees, where Sergeant Speck required urgent care. Their prompt intervention stabilized Sgt. Speck until he could receive further treatment at the hospital. Although jail nurses are contracted to provide medical care for inmates, they consistently demonstrate a commitment to the safety and well-being of all individuals in their environment.
Well done Marina, Stephanie, Mallary, and Alyssa! 🫡

Such a wonderful initiative dedicated to an extraordinary man. We miss you, Sheriff David Jones. 💜
We are incredibly honored to announce the launch of the Sheriff David Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Sheriff David Jones was instrumental in the growth of this Ministry and in helping lay foundations that continue to impact lives in ways we are still seeing today. He was incredibly supportive of the work being done Within the Walls, Within the Families, and Within the Community, and he deeply loved both people and this community.
Created in his honor, this scholarship exists to encourage and support students whose lives have been impacted by incarceration as they pursue their future.
Through God Comes Justice Ministries will award a $500 scholarship for the 2026–2027 school year to a graduating senior planning to attend a college, university, or trade school.
The 2026–2027 scholarship will be awarded through TGCJ Ministries. Future scholarship opportunities will transition through the San Angelo Area Foundation, and updated information will be provided as it becomes available.
We know that circumstances do not define a person’s future, and we believe hope can change generations!
Applications are now open and must be submitted no later than July 1, 2026.
🖥️- Visit our website at https://www.tgcjministry.com/ for full scholarship details and application information.

National Corrections Officers Week May 3 - 9, 2026 ~
We take this time to acknowledge the unwavering dedication of the men and women in our Detention Center, who work tirelessly within the confines of our jail. Their efforts, often overlooked, are essential to ensuring the safety, security, and overall well-being of our community. Corrections Officers do much more than oversee inmates; they uphold order, respond to crises, and contribute significantly to rehabilitation and accountability. Their professionalism and commitment are invaluable.
This week also serves as a chance for our community to express its gratitude. A simple “thank you,” a note of appreciation, or any gesture of support can have a profound impact. Let us not forget that a safe community is built on the foundation of a robust county jail.
To all our corrections officers: we extend our heartfelt thanks for your service, integrity, and unwavering dedication to Tom Green County. 🩶
