Our tallest broomstick formation has a name: the Totem Pole. It's 32' tall.
Facts about broomsticks:
Broomsticks form when a slow, steady drip deposts most of its minerals (calcite) at the top, causing the formation to grow upward faster than it grows outward.
Tall and spindly, these are stalagmites. Remember stalagmites "might" reach the ceiling someday and stalactites hold "tight" to the ceiling.
Built over hundreds of thousands of years, each layer is made up of itty bitty, elongated calcite crystals oriented roughly perpendicular to the growing surface.
We get what it's like to be down 3-1. We had to drill 4 shafts before we found our second cave. If we could find a million year old cave after poking holes in the Hill Country back in the 60s, we know what's possible!
BTW, our well shaft #5 (we were looking for the second big room) is our biggest re-measure yet! It's 21.5 Wembys!
Our Maze Towers are 2.5 Wembys tall. (FYI We're not sure how challenging a maze for Wemby - since he can see right over the top... )
Be like Wemby. 'Nuff said. Go Spurs Go! 🖤🤍
