San Antonio River Authority SARA, created in 1937, is one of many such active river authorities in the State of Texas.

In 1917, the voters of Texas, recognizing the necessity of developing and conserving the State’s water resources and inspired by devastating floods of 1913 and 1914, passed a Constitutional amendment allowing the Legislature to create special purpose political subdivisions of the State to serve regional areas, generally coincidental with river basins and to be generally known as river authorities. Its jurisdiction covers 3,658 square milesβ€”all of Bexar, Wilson, Karnes and Goliad Counties.

🐠 Ready to retire your fish tank? Don’t Tank the River!

❌🌊 Don’t dump anything into local waterways, this includes fish, plants, rocks, and decorations. Instead, donate the entire setup to Papa Jims Tropical Fish, Elegant Reef - Tropical Fish Studio, or Texas Tropical & Marine . These local businesses have partnered with the San Antonio River Authority to help prevent improper aquarium dumping.

Releasing aquarium fish or plants into ponds or rivers may seem harmless, but it can destroy local ecosystems. Most aquarium pets are not native to our waterways and can become invasive!

⭐ The San Antonio River Foundation and San Antonio River Authority were proud to unveil Presence of the Past and Culture Crossing Pavilion by Gordon Huether and Andrea "Vocab" Sanderson.

β›ͺ Once a parking lot, the space has been transformed during the reconstruction of San Pedro Creek to honor the legacy of the St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church and the various cultures across time that have contributed to San Antonio today.

🌊 Located at the intersection of Houston and Camaron, the beautiful pieces are open to the public to continue the tradition of gathering around water!

πŸ™ Thank you to our partners for making this possible! For more information visit www.sariverfound.org/donate/stjamesame/ and www.sariverauthority.org/blog-news/woven-by-water-rivers-connecting-our-stories/
