The FSPA Board of Directors gathered in Fort Lauderdale this past weekend for two days of collaboration, planning and leadership focused on advancing Florida’s pool and spa industry.

The meeting brought together chapter leaders, council representatives, committee members, and industry partners for updates on education, membership, government relations, advocacy, workforce development, Florida Swims Foundation initiatives and more.

Of course, it wasn’t all business! Members enjoyed a fun team-building activity featuring a pool noodle throwing competition, with team “One and Done” taking home bragging rights as the event champions. Congratulations on the win! 🏆

A special thank you to our sponsors and hosts who helped make the meeting a success:
☕ Workflow Perfection for sponsoring breakfast
🍽️ Lyon Financial for sponsoring lunch
🍸 FSPA Broward Chapter for hosting the welcome cocktail hour and Friday happy hour

Thank you to everyone who participated, shared insights and helped shape the future of our association. Together, we continue working to strengthen the industry, support our members and promote excellence throughout Florida.

Meet Carlos M. Cruz, a key member of FSPA’s Government Relations Team, working behind the scenes to protect and advance Florida’s pool and spa industry.

With more than 30 years in government relations and public policy, Carlos brings deep experience and a sharp understanding of how to get things done.

What drives his work?
Carlos got his start early, serving in student government and as President of Future Business Leaders of America, after originally considering a run for office. That passion for advocacy never left.

🏛️ What does he do for FSPA?
He works year-round to influence policymakers, protecting the integrity and professionalism of licensed pool builders and ensuring the industry’s voice is heard where it matters most.

Key issues he champions:
✔️ Water safety programs
✔️ Protecting licensure standards
✔️ Preventing unqualified industry encroachment

A reality check on advocacy:
“It’s not something you can show up for only when you need it, influence is built year-round.”

Why member involvement matters:
“If you’re not engaged, you risk being left out of important decisions. This industry deserves a seat at the table.”

Recent win he’s proud of:
Successfully defending the industry against efforts from other trades to enter without proper training, keeping standards high and consumers protected.

What he enjoys most:
The passion of FSPA members and the pride they take in delivering quality to their customers.

Outside of work:
Family comes first. Carlos and his wife enjoy spending time with their two sons and are proud of the men they’ve raised ❤️
