June is 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐮𝐧 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡, with June 6th recognized in Savannah as 𝐆𝐮𝐧 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲. At 𝐒𝐀𝐅𝐄 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫, we take this time to uplift survivor voices, educate our community, and advocate for safer homes and neighborhoods—because 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞.

Today, we honor the 𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 who lead with 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞, 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧.

Your presence matters more than words can say—through your 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞, 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, you help create 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞, 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬 where children and families can 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥.

At 𝐒𝐀𝐅𝐄 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫, we see the impact of positive role models every day. The strength it takes to show up with 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 truly shapes what healthy love looks like.

Today, we pause to honor 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐡—a powerful reminder of 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 of those who came before us.

At 𝐒𝐀𝐅𝐄 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫, we recognize that the journey toward 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲, 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 is ongoing. Juneteenth invites us not only to reflect on the past but to recommit to building a future where every individual can live free from 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦, 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫.

Today, we honor the 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 of Black communities—𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭, 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞. We stand in solidarity as we continue our work to create spaces of 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲, 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞 for all.

We are so grateful to Zeta Sigma Psi Military Sorority, Inc. for their generous donation of move-out baskets for our clients as they prepare to begin the next chapter of their lives beyond the shelter.

Founded in 2019, this remarkable group of women may be small in size, but their impact is truly powerful. The care and dedication they pour into their work reflect a deep commitment to being part of meaningful change in our community.

New SAFE Shelter Board Member Spotlight! 🌟

Trina Embrey, DNS, RN, is a seasoned academic leader and educator in nursing with extensive experience in program administration, faculty development, accreditation, and teaching. She has served in senior leadership roles as BSN Program Director at Armstrong State University and as Chair of the School of Nursing at Georgia Southern University.

Dr. Embrey has held leadership and board positions at both the international and state levels, including service with Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and the Georgia Association for Nursing Education. Her scholarship includes publications in nursing education and complementary and integrative health.

Dr. Embrey is honored to serve on the Board of SAFE Shelter and is committed to increasing awareness of domestic violence and advancing efforts that support safety, healing, and meaningful change. Grounded in her nursing background, she brings a deep and compassionate understanding of healing and care and is dedicated to supporting initiatives that promote wellbeing in the community.

New SAFE Shelter Board Member Spotlight! 🌟

Kyle Gallenstein is a Savannah-based attorney who brings over a decade of public service to SAFE Shelter’s Board of Directors with a strong litigation background representing survivors of domestic violence and other crimes. Kyle joined the Georgia Legal Services Program in 2019. He is a Supervising Attorney in GLSP’s Savannah Regional Office with much of his focus on domestic relations, elder law, and consumer matters.

Prior to Georgia Legal Services Program, Kyle served as a Staff Attorney and Domestic Violence Clinic Supervisor with Legal Aid Society of Southwest Ohio. Kyle also currently serves on multiple family violence task forces in Coastal and Middle Georgia.

Through Safe Shelter, survivors receive emergency shelter, counseling, case management, and long-term support during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
