FareStart's food harvesting season is off to a strong start! 🌱

Thanks to the incredible efforts of our volunteers, more than 180 pounds of fresh produce was harvested, including green cabbage, snap peas, scallions, lettuce and more.

Through partnerships with local farms and food producers, like 21 Acres, FareStart helps recover high-quality produce that might otherwise go to waste and incorporates it into meals that nourish our community. This work also supports local growers and helps strengthen a more sustainable and equitable food system.

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and serves as an opportunity to reflect on our nation's history, the ongoing pursuit of equity, and the importance of creating communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

At FareStart, our mission is rooted in creating pathways to opportunity and removing barriers that prevent people from reaching their full potential. While Juneteenth marks a specific moment in history, it also reminds us that building a more equitable future requires continued learning, reflection and action.

Yesterday, FareStart employees had the opportunity to enjoy red velvet cake as one way to recognize Juneteenth and learn about the significance of red foods in many Juneteenth celebrations. Red foods often symbolize resilience, remembrance and joy, reflecting the history, culture and traditions associated with the holiday.

Today, the FareStart Restaurant, FareStart Café, our job training programs and administrative office are closed in observance of the holiday. While many of our team members are off today, some staff are continuing essential work to ensure meals are delivered throughout the community.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the FareStart Restaurant and FareStart Café on Monday. Wishing everyone a meaningful Juneteenth.

Last week’s Guest Chef Night with Chef Sabrina Tinsley of Osteria La Spiga filled the FareStart Restaurant with the flavors and warmth of Italy. The room felt full in every sense: delicious food, generous hospitality and community around every table. ✨

The night was made even more fun with former Seahawks legend Walter Jones in the house, along with our incredible volunteer server group from Coordinated Care. This crew always brings the joy, and we appreciate the care and energy they share with our guests.

Last Thursday, FareStart CEO Patrick D’Amelio had the pleasure of participating in the ceremony raising the FIFA flag atop the Space Needle as Seattle officially kicked off FIFA World Cup excitement.

We are also honored to receive a SEA Beacon from Deloitte. Designed by local artist Shogo Ota and created by Western Neon, this legacy art installation will be at the Seattle Center Armory as one of dozens of “selfless selfie stations” popping up around the Seattle Unity Loop during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

FareStart exists to transform lives through food, job training and employment. Moments like yesterday — on a global stage — remind us just how far that mission can travel. Grateful doesn't begin to cover it.

Last month, FareStart and Coffee TAB came together for a latte art competition featuring talented graduates from both programs.

Each graduate brought focus, creativity and skill to the bar, creating beautiful pours and cheering one another on along the way. It was a meaningful reminder of what happens when people have the opportunity to keep building their craft within a supportive community.

More than a competition, the day reflected the heart of this work by graduates encouraging each other, partners showing up together and a community celebrating growth.
