Family reunification happens when parents are supported, empowered, and believed in. This National Reunification Month, we honor the journey of parents working to bring their families back together—and the role of community-based support like our Parents for Parents (P4P) program.

When parents are equipped with the right tools and encouragement, safe reunification becomes not just a goal—but a reality.

Community Partners are integral to the work we do at Akin, strengthening connections and amplifying the impact of our work with children and families.

We had the pleasure of partnering with 40+ Deloitte employees for a day to help organize and pack essential goods and hygiene kits at our Family Resource Centers in North Seattle and Kent to support families we serve in our communities.

From packing hygiene kits and organizing clothing to cleaning classrooms and supporting our Family Resource Centers, their dedication and generosity made a meaningful impact.

Huge shoutout and gratitude to the team at Deloitte for investing your time, energy, and hearts in helping families thrive. Together, we are building stronger communities where every child and family can flourish.

“I was ready to make changes to be the mom my daughter deserved.”

With the support of our (P4P) Parents for Parents program, Briana was able to successfully navigate the child welfare system and reunite with her daughter. She has since become a Program Coordinator with our P4P program and is supporting other caregivers through their unique journey.

Akin team members traveled to D.C. to attend the annual National Family Support Network Member Convening and Advocacy Days May 18-21, with a mission to visit seven of the 12 members of Congress from Washington state, focusing on advocating for Family Resource Centers (FRCs) and family support practice locally in WA state, as well as the forthcoming Family Prosperity Act, a piece of legislation that would create the nation's first ever flexible funding line specifically for Family Resource Centers.

Additionally, networks from across the country met to share best practices, build compelling narratives of the FRC story, explored collaboration opportunities, and worked with researchers from Casey Family Programs and the Annie E Casey Foundation on deepening the breadth of knowledge of and resources needed to run successful FRCs.

Thank you to our advocacy team, partners and community for raising critical awareness and funding in support of family wellbeing in Washington state.
