🇵🇭✨ Maligayang Araw ng Kalayaan! ✨🇵🇭

Today, we join Filipinos worldwide in celebrating the 128th Philippine Independence Day, honoring the historic 1898 declaration of freedom from Spanish colonial rule in Cavite.

At the Filipino Community of Seattle, Kalayaan (freedom) inspires our daily mission. We honor the resilience of our ancestors by empowering our community today—providing vital social services, securing affordable housing, and cultivating spaces where our rich cultural heritage can thrive independently and proudly in the Pacific Northwest. Here's to honoring our roots and building a stronger, liberated future together! 💙❤️💛

ID: The mural, entitled “Ibig Naming Maitanghal sa Lupain ng Amerika,” also has an English title, “Philippine Seattle: We Want the Wide American Earth” taken from Filipino writer Carlos Bulosan’s poem “I Want the Wide American Earth.” The mural is design by Filipino artist Eliseo Art Silva and lives at our Filipino Community Village 1, affordable housing for seniors.
