🚒 Last Week, KCFD #20 Had the Privilege of Hosting Another Station Tour! 🚒
We were honored to welcome students participating in local Black male mentorship and leadership development programs for a behind-the-scenes look at the fire service.
Through partnerships with local philanthropic organizations, programs like Rising Sons Extended provide mentorship, leadership training, and personal growth opportunities for students in grades 3–5. We were proud to connect those lessons with the values that guide the fire service every day leadership, teamwork, integrity, and service to others.
During their visit, students toured the station, explored our apparatus, met firefighters, and learned about careers in the fire service. More importantly, they had the opportunity to engage with mentors and firefighters who shared their experiences, challenges, and pathways to success.
KCFD #20 is committed to supporting opportunities that expose young people to positive role models, career possibilities, and the importance of serving their communities.
Thank you to our community partners, mentors, and students for making the visit such a success. We look forward to continuing these efforts to inspire the next generation of leaders and public servants.

On June 5, KCFD 20 was honored to provide space for a gun lock box distribution event hosted by Urban Family.
Community safety takes many forms. While we're best known for emergency response and fire prevention, we also value opportunities to support programs that help prevent injuries before they happen. Safe firearm storage is an important part of protecting families and reducing the risk of accidental injury or unauthorized access.
Thank you to Urban Family and everyone who attended for helping make this event a success. Partnerships like these strengthen our community and reflect our shared commitment to safety, prevention, and preparedness.
Together, we can continue building a safer and stronger community for everyone.

Since everyone else is posting about the World Cup, we figured we should jump on the bandwagon too.
We know you look to us for clear safety tips. So here is your official reminder to use soccer balls safely.

Warm days bring more people to our local rivers, lakes, and beaches. Unfortunately, drownings and river rescues happen far too often.
Please wear a life jacket when you are in or near the water. Even when the air is warm, the water can still be very cold. Cold water can cause hypothermia and quickly affect even strong swimmers.
Please also keep a close eye on children around the water. Drownings can happen quickly, even at busy beaches, parks, and swimming areas.
Enjoy the warm weather, but please make water safety part of your plans.

Our partners at King County Emergency Management and several Eastside fire agencies have developed a helpful Wildfire Ready Toolkit to help families prepare their homes, yards, and neighborhoods for wildfire season.
As we approach the start of summer, now is a good time to take action. Simple steps like clearing leaves and debris, moving flammable materials away from your home, preparing for smoke, and making a family emergency plan can make a difference.
Take a few minutes to review the toolkit and get your household wildfire ready:

Cloudy, rainy days are the right time to prepare for wildfire.
This past week, King County Fire District #20 crews joined other South King County fire departments for wildfire training focused on bump-and-run drills.
Bump-and-run is a wildland firefighting tactic used when crews need to stay mobile. Instead of setting up in one fixed location, engines move from spot to spot to quickly knock down fire, protect homes, and stay ahead of changing fire conditions.
Even on a wet day like today, wildfire readiness matters. Training now helps crews build coordination, practice communication, and prepare for the warmer, drier days ahead.
Thank you to our firefighters and our Zone 3 partner agencies for the time and work they put into keeping our communities ready.

What a Great Day at the Station!
This morning, we had the pleasure of welcoming a class from Dimmitt Middle School to our station for a special behind-the-scenes look at the fire service.
The students arrived with positive attitudes, thoughtful questions, and a genuine eagerness to learn about what it takes to serve in the fire service. Our crew enjoyed sharing information about firefighting, emergency medical services, station life, and the many ways firefighters help keep our community safe.
What made this visit especially meaningful was learning that this was the class's very first fire station tour. We were honored to be their introduction to the fire service and to help create a positive and memorable experience.
One of the highlights of the visit was giving students a hands-on opportunity to learn about fire safety and the tools firefighters use every day. One lucky student even got to use our training water fire extinguisher to help put out an imaginary fire, using a safety cone as the target. 🧯
We hope the visit helped students become more familiar with their local fire department and feel confident knowing that firefighters are a trusted community resource. Most importantly, we hope they left knowing that the fire service is always here to help and that they can feel safe turning to us in an emergency.
Thank you to the students and staff of Dimmitt Middle School for spending part of your day with us. Your curiosity, excitement, and engagement made the visit truly special.
And who knows? We may have met a few future firefighters, EMTs, or community leaders in the making! 🚒

Thank You for an Incredible Diversity & Recruitment Workshop!
This past Saturday, May 30, the King County Fire Chiefs Association proudly welcomed more than 150 attendees to the semi-annual Diversity & Recruitment Workshop. This event provided an opportunity for individuals from diverse backgrounds to learn about careers in the fire service and EMS, connect with industry professionals, and explore pathways to a rewarding future in public safety.
We were inspired by the enthusiasm, curiosity, and passion demonstrated by everyone who attended. The energy throughout the day was truly remarkable, and it was exciting to meet so many individuals eager to learn, grow, and serve their communities.
Events like these highlight the importance of creating accessible opportunities within the fire and EMS professions while fostering a workforce that reflects the diverse communities we proudly serve.
Thank you to all who participated, engaged in meaningful conversations, asked thoughtful questions, and took the next step in exploring a career in public safety. Your interest and commitment made this event an overwhelming success.
A special thank you to Bellevue Fire Department and Bellevue College for their partnership, hospitality, and support in making this event possible. We are grateful for your shared commitment to creating opportunities and inspiring the next generation of fire service and EMS professionals.
We look forward to continuing this important work by building connections, expanding opportunities, and supporting future firefighters and EMTs. We can't wait to see everyone again for the next Diversity & Recruitment Workshop in Fall 2026!
Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we are building a stronger, more inclusive future for the fire and EMS profession.

Today we pause to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.
Memorial Day is not just a long weekend. It is a day set aside to honor the people who did not come home, and to recognize the families who carry that loss every day.
From all of us at King County Fire District 20, thank you to those who served, those who sacrificed, and those who continue to keep their memory alive.
We remember. We honor. We are grateful.
