☀️ Summer Safety Reminder ☀️
Warmer weather means open windows, outdoor play, and more time spent enjoying the sunshine. But lead dust can still make its way into homes from contaminated soil and deteriorating lead-based paint around older properties.
Simple steps like removing shoes at the door and washing children’s hands after playing outside can help reduce exposure and keep families safer.
Every small action helps protect children from the harmful effects of lead.

Last Saturday, the LeadSafe CNY Coalition was proud to join community partners at the Light A Candle for Literacy Parade and Festival 2026 to celebrate the power of reading, learning, and opportunity for all children.
Did you know? Lead exposure can affect a child’s ability to learn, pay attention, and succeed in school. Research shows that even low levels of lead exposure are associated with lower reading and math performance, decreased academic achievement, and lasting impacts on learning. There is no safe level of lead exposure for children.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table and helped us raise awareness about the connection between healthy homes, literacy, and lifelong success. Together, we can create a future where every child is lead-safe and ready to learn.

Last week, LeadSafe CNY Coalition had the privilege of joining Families for Lead Freedom Now and A Tiny Home for Good for the ribbon-cutting celebration of the Lead Freedom House.
The Lead Freedom House represents hope, healing, and the power of community collaboration. We are honored to stand alongside affected families, organizations and advocates working to ensure families have access to safe, healthy housing and the resources they need to thrive.
Congratulations to everyone who helped make this vision a reality. We look forward to continuing this important work together.

Last Week Was Historic ❤️🖤💚
Last week, Syracuse stood in history.
Juneteenth in our city kicked off with the official flag raising, a powerful moment of remembrance, pride, culture, and community. We watched as Mayor Sharon F. Owens and Parks Commissioner Syeisha Byrd stood before the people, representing leadership, legacy, and the beauty of Black excellence in motion.
This was more than a ceremony. It was a living reminder that freedom has a sound, a color, a heartbeat, and a responsibility.
From the steps of City Hall to the soul of our neighborhoods, Syracuse honored our ancestors, celebrated our culture, and lifted up the ongoing work of justice, equity, and liberation. And Juneteenth in Syracuse reminded us that Black freedom, Black joy, and Black legacy are still rising. ❤️🖤💚✨

Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day of freedom, resilience, and reflection.
On June 19, 1865, more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that enslaved African Americans were free. This historic moment became known as Juneteenth, marking the true enforcement of freedom for many who had remained enslaved despite the law.
Juneteenth is a celebration of liberation, family, community, and hope for future generations. Across the nation, people gather through reunions, faith services, community events, and shared meals to commemorate this important day in American history.
At LeadSafe CNY Coalition, we recognize that strong communities begin with safe, healthy homes. As we reflect on the progress made and the work that remains, we remain committed to creating healthier futures for all children and families.
Today, we remember. We reflect. We renew our commitment to healthy homes and healthy communities.
❤️🤍💙 Happy Juneteenth from LeadSafe CNY Coalition.
Please note: Our office is closed today in observance of Juneteenth and will reopen on Monday, June 22.
