In 1974, RSS Founder Julia Blumenthal and her colleagues set out to improve the lives of seniors in the Riverdale community.

RSS (Riverdale Senior Services) is a multi-purpose non-profit agency whose mission is to promote the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional well-being of older adults in the Northwest Bronx. Riverdale Senior Center opened with the mission of providing a place where people could meet friends, share a meal and learn from one another. ✨ Reflecting on a powerful and uplifting Juneteenth celebration!

A massive thank you to our incredible presenters who shared the deep history, resilience, and significance behind this vital holiday. We learned so much together.

And because no celebration is complete without some joy, we wrapped up the day the only way we knew how—dancing to "Celebration"! 🎶💃🕺

❤️💛💚🖤 Celebrating Juneteenth at RSS!

Today, we join our community and the nation in celebrating Juneteenth—commemorating June 19, 1865, when freedom finally reached the last enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas.

At RSS we honor the profound resilience, history, and vibrant culture of the Black community. We are so grateful for the diverse voices, stories, and histories that enrich our center every single day.

Wishing all of our members, families, and neighbors a beautiful, meaningful, and joyful Juneteenth! ✨

RSS members showed off their talents in our preliminary showcase to determine who will represent us at DFTA’s Talent is Timeless competition.

Hosted by the NYC Department for the Aging (NYC Aging), Talent is Timeless invites New Yorkers age 60 and older to take the stage and share their gifts through singing, dancing, poetry, comedy, and more.

Congratulations to our winners:

First Place: Piano Duet – Ekatarina Fabian and Victoria Sokolov

Second Place: Comedy – Frank Moshman

Third Place: Singing – Arnold Godfrey

We are so proud of all the talented performers who shared their creativity, passion, and courage. We cannot wait to cheer on our representatives at the next stage of the competition.

Technology Tip: Keep your apps updated regularly! App updates do more than add new features, they often include important security fixes and bug repairs that help keep your device running smoothly.

Consider enabling automatic updates so your apps stay current without any extra effort.

Our social worker, Gidalthy Estevez, organized a Photovoice workshop series that encouraged members to express themselves through creativity and photography. Participants explored the connection between color and emotion while learning to use professional cameras with guidance from Technology teacher Caroline Voigt. To put their new skills into practice, members enjoyed a field trip to Wave Hill!
