On this day in 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved African Americans that they were free. This brought the message of emancipation to the United States of America's last remaining Confederate territory. This day became officially known as Juneteenth, combining "June" and "nineteenth," and has since been a day commemorating freedom and resilience.

The City of Tomball is proud to recognize and honor this historic day of remembrance as we celebrate freedom for all people.

Did you know that storm water collected from streets, ditches, storm drain inlets, and pipes flow directly into natural streams and rivers without being treated?

It's important to keep storm water clean to protect our water sources and aquatic environments.

You can help by:
1. Throwing all garbage directly into trash cans.
2. Bagging up leaves and grass from your lawn instead of blowing them into the street or streams.
3. Scooping up pet waste and disposing it in trash cans.
4. Contacting hazardous waste disposal services to dispose of liquids like oils, chemicals, and petroleum.

These simple actions can make a huge difference in making sure our storm water remains protected.
