Engine 4 and Ladder 2, currently operating in Ladder 27, helped some young Tulsa Drillers fans beat the heat today during a community engagement event at ONEOK Field. Crews connected to a hydrant and turned the splash pad area into the coolest spot in the ballpark as temperatures soared and the UV index reached 10.

As summer heat settles into Tulsa, remember to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and wear lightweight clothing and sunscreen when spending time outdoors. Heat-related illnesses can develop quickly, especially for children, older adults, and anyone participating in outdoor activities.

A big thanks to the Tulsa Drillers for inviting us out for a fun afternoon of community engagement and summertime cooling!

🚨Lithium-Ion Battery Safety Reminder🚨

Recently, Tulsa Fire Department crews responded to an apartment fire caused by an exploding lithium-ion battery pack.

Thankfully, the resident was able to extinguish most of the fire with a portable extinguisher and suffered only minor injuries. However, the explosion damaged walls, flooring, furniture, a television, and other items throughout the apartment.

The battery pack had just finished charging when it failed. The battery pack was approximately three years old and contained 20 smaller lithium-ion batteries that all became projectiles.

Know the warning signs:
-Swelling or bulging
-Excessive heat
-Smoke or unusual odors
-Hissing, popping, or crackling sounds
-Physical damage

Protect yourself:
-Use manufacturer-approved chargers
-Don’t charge batteries unattended or while sleeping
-Replace damaged or aging batteries
-Store batteries away from heat and flammable materials

A failing lithium-ion battery can go from normal to dangerous in seconds. If you notice any warning signs, stop using the battery immediately.

With more families heading to pools, lakes, rivers, and outdoor events, now is a great time to review a few important safety reminders:

Wear a properly fitted, Coast Guard-approved life jacket when participating in water activities.

Maintain constant, active supervision of children around water—drowning can happen quickly and quietly.

If you’re visiting Tulsa Wave Park, remember it is designed for water sports such as surfing, kayaking, and paddleboarding—not swimming. The aerated water, strong currents, and underwater obstacles create unique hazards.

While state law has changed regarding bottle rockets, they remain prohibited within Tulsa city limits. Bottle rockets are unpredictable and have a long history of causing fires and injuries.

Consider attending one of the many professional fireworks displays in our area and leave the fireworks to the experts.

We appreciate every opportunity to share safety information with our community. A few simple precautions can help make this a fun, memorable, and safe summer for everyone.

Tulsa Fire Department reminds Oklahomans about summertime water safety Tulsa firefighters discuss things to remember when going to the Wave Park and using fireworks this summer.

As temperatures rise this summer, staying hydrated is one of the simplest ways to stay safe.

Don’t wait until you feel thirsty to drink water. Spending time outdoors, exercising, working in the heat, or even attending summer events can quickly lead to dehydration. Make it a habit to drink water throughout the day, take breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and check on children, older adults, and pets who are more vulnerable to heat-related illness.

Signs of dehydration can include headache, dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, and dark-colored urine. If you begin feeling overheated, move to a cooler location and start rehydrating immediately.

This summer, make water your go-to drink and help keep yourself and your family safe.

Stay hydrated. Stay cool. Stay safe.

🚨Update on the gas leak and road closure.🚨

Oklahoma Natural Gas crews were able to get the leak fixed and the road is now open for regular traffic.

Traffic Alert – Gas Line Leak

At around 9:30 a.m., crews from Station 27 responded to a gas line leak near S. Mingo Rd. and E. 37th Street.

Engine 27 and Ladder 27 have remained on scene monitoring conditions and providing fire protection while Oklahoma Natural Gas crews worked to bring in the equipment needed to begin repairs.

ONG crews are currently working to repair the damaged line. S. Mingo Rd. is closed in both directions and will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time.

There is no danger to nearby homes or businesses, and crews are hopeful repairs can be completed within the next hour.

Please choose alternate routes until the roadway reopens. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Participants will run past fire apparatus, through the bay of Fire Station 4, and enjoy family-friendly activities including fire trucks, inflatables, and water sprayed from fire apparatus.
