Upper Nyack Elementary School PTA

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce that the last enslaved Black Americans were free. This came more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, it is a federal holiday celebrating freedom, resilience, and Black history.

Our event, Make Something Film Convention, is a place for kids in Rockland to learn and discover filmmaking! We’ll have local teachers introducing students to writing, directing, and camera work, and local professionals to show and give them the chance to use high-quality equipment.

For the past 2 years, our Nyack-based company, MultiFlix Media, has been bringing workshops to high schools that have plenty of their own equipment and students who plan on pursuing film already. The hope for Make Something is to kick off the summer by bringing those resources to parents and all creative kids in the area, where they can meet new friends to make their next movie with! Join us on June 10th for our final gathering of the school year, 6pm-7pm. We’ll join in conversation about this years successes, where you see room for improvement and our ideas for next year. You and your child are welcome to come to Peas to play from 4pm-7pm ($10 with code UNESPTA). Light refreshments served at 6pm.
