✨🎶🎭 THANK YOU to the Vienna-based collective Fox On Ice for a wonderful performance of ORLANDO TRIP at the Embassy of Austria, Washington D.C.!

The audience was fascinated by this reimagination of Ludovico Ariosto’s and Virginia Woolf’s mythical character Orlando. Part concert, part spoken performance, part cinematic experience, ORLANDO TRIP unfolded through twelve songs, intermezzi, and videos that traced the journey of Orlando — a knight, traveler, and ambassador, who crossed the seas several times and finally returned as a masterful and nomadic conqueror of rigid borders. Seamlessly blending stage and film, music and literature, Fox On Ice created an immersive world where humans and landscapes, masculinity and femininity, reality and myth continuously transformed into one another 🌍📚🎬

This Pride Month, Austria reaffirms that human rights are universal and apply equally to all people, everywhere. 🏳️‍🌈

Everyone deserves to live freely, safely, and with dignity, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. Yet around the world, many LGBTIQ+ people continue to face discrimination, harassment, violence, and hate speech—both online and offline.

We stand with those working to advance equality, diversity, and inclusion, and we recognize the vital contributions of human rights defenders and civil society organizations who support and protect the rights of LGBTIQ+ communities.

This month and throughout the year, we celebrate Pride and reaffirm our commitment to a world where everyone can live openly, authentically, and free from fear.

We were honored to welcome Dr. Evelyn Torton Beck for a documentary screening of her life, “Never in My Wildest Dreams” and a thoughtful discussion following the film at the Embassy. Dr. Beck’s journey, fleeing N**i Austria as a young child to becoming an internationally recognized scholar, author, and advocate for social justice, is an inspiring story of resilience and courage. Her own life’s work is dedicated to making the world a better place, and it was clear from the evening that she has touched so many lives.

During Pride Month, it was especially meaningful to host Dr. Beck with her work as a feminist scholar and LGBTQ+ trailblazer, who has helped advance equality and visibility. Her ground-breaking book, “Nice Jewish Girls: A Le***an Anthology”, gave a voice to Jewish and le***an women whom had previously been silenced.

Thank you, Dr. Beck, for sharing your wisdom, joy and creativity with us. We are grateful to everyone who joined us for this special evening, among those many from Evelyn’s own wide circle of friends and supporters.

Last week, Ambassador Schneebauer joined EU Ambassador Jovita Neliupšienė and fellow EU Member State Ambassadors at the Library of Congress for a special reception marking the handover of the EU Ambassadors Book Collection to the American public. A sincere thank you to Representative Nathaniel Moran for hosting this meaningful event.

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States, all 27 EU Member States donated an English-language book reflecting their national history, culture, and values to the Library of Congress. Austria contributed The Marshall Plan – Since 1947: Saving Europe, Rebuilding Austria, ever grateful for the vital role in Austria’s post-war recovery and reconstruction.

The collection celebrates the enduring bonds between Europe and the United States and invites American readers to explore the stories, experiences, and values that unite us. 📚🤝🇺🇸.
