Eleven years ago, the US Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges ruled that the fundamental right to marry applies to same s*x couples.

Seven years later, Justice Clarence Thomas called for the Court to reconsider that right.

As a member of the Congressional Equality Caucus, I’m fighting to ensure that just like James Obergefell and John Arthur, and Mildred and Richard Loving before them, everyone has the freedom to marry the person they love.

My heart goes out to the people of Venezuela, their loved ones and the communities both here and abroad who have been impacted by the devastating earthquakes earlier today.

To help uplift those most in need, here are some things to keep in mind as you consider ways to support Venezuela during this difficult time.

Patients deserve privacy when it comes to their reproductive health. Yet, in a post-Roe world, anyone faces the risk of prosecution if their personal medical information falls into the hands of Republican extremists targeting their reproductive freedom.

I joined Congresswoman Sara Jacobs and Senator Mazie Hirono to introduce the SAFER Health Act. This bill represents an important first step in ensuring patients have the guarantee of privacy when making reproductive health decisions.

It took 95 years for Congress to enforce the 15th Amendment’s prohibition of racial discrimination in voting through the Voting Rights Act. In 2013, the Supreme Court gutted a key provision of the VRA in Shelby County v. Holder.

Now, the Louisiana v. Callais decision makes the VRA virtually impossible to enforce as states across the South move with all deliberate speed to dilute Black voting strength through mid-decade gerrymandering.

I’m fighting back with the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to restore voting rights protections through the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

For over 400 years, people have come to America seeking sanctuary from religious persecution, violence and instability in their home countries.

Today, the Supreme Court handed the Trump Administration the ability to turn its back on those seeking to do the same by blocking asylum seekers at the border and ending TPS for Haitians and Syrians living and working legally in this country.

I represent a district filled with vibrant immigrant communities and know firsthand the value they add to our local economies, cultures and traditions.

With these decisions, the Trump-packed Supreme Court enables the Administration to continue its relentless mass detention and deportation agenda that tears families apart and undermines the foundational principles of our country.

Since the start of this Administration, I have been a vocal critic of its cruel policies targeting immigrants. I will continue to fight and speak up for our immigrant communities as they face an unprecedented wave of attacks from this Administration and those that have rubberstamped its aggressive campaign to take away the things and people that make our nation so great.

raises awareness for the 3.7 million Americans living with the autoimmune disease that causes loss of pigment cells and discoloration of the skin.

Today, I took to the floor to call on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to ensure that all vitiligo patients can get the treatment they need, regardless of where they live.

As the American people struggle to pay their energy bills, they should not have to bear the burden of meeting the energy needs of data centers and AI.

Yesterday, the Energy Subcommittee advanced several bills to help ensure they don’t.

As a result of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade four years ago today, over 1 in 3 women live in states with abortion bans or extreme restrictions.

I joined on to discuss the state of reproductive freedom today.

As a coequal branch of government, Congress plays an important oversight role to ensure the executive branch meets its constitutional obligations and does not trample constitutional rights.

Rep. LaMonica McIver faces 17 years in prison for conducting routine oversight at an ICE detention facility in her district. The Trump Administration seeks to intimidate members of Congress to prevent us from doing our job.

I stand with LaMonica because oversight is our job, not a crime.

Four years ago, the Supreme Court ripped away the constitutional right to an abortion by overturning Roe v. Wade. Today, 1 in 3 women now live in states with abortion bans or extreme restrictions.

As a state senator, I passed the Reproductive Health Protection Act to make Virginia a safe haven for abortion access in the South. Now, as Chair of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus Abortion Access and Rights Task Force, I’m fighting to ensure that no matter where you live, the decision of when, whether and how to become a parent is yours — and that you can access the reproductive health care you need, when you need it, without interference from politicians.
