Meet SOLAR-1. First of its kind. First to know. First day of operation: today.
This new 🛰️ is nearly 1 million miles away from Earth to give a heads up on any disruptive the sun might send our way.
Space weather—which includes coronal mass ejections, solar wind and more—can knock out power grids, GPS and many other everyday systems we take for granted.
New, advanced equipment on board SOLAR-1 means that vital information will get to us 24/7 and in a fraction of the time it once took, meaning much more time to prepare on Earth and in space.
