The DC CPOA recently had the privilege of hosting cadets from Pinellas Park High School in Pinellas Park, Florida. Representing one of the Coast Guard’s 16 JROTC programs nationwide, Pinellas Park was one of four Coast Guard JROTC units to earn a spot at this year’s Junior Leadership Academic Bowl (JLAB) National Championship in Washington, D.C., alongside programs from Kodiak, Alaska; MAST Academy, Florida; and Saraland, Alabama.

JLAB brings together JROTC students from across the country to test their academic knowledge, leadership skills, and teamwork as they compete for a national championship title.

During their one day away from competition, the Pinellas Park cadets visited Coast Guard Headquarters to learn more about our service and the opportunities it offers. The highlight of their visit was a special conversation with Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard, Master Chief Philip N. Waldron. He took time to engage directly with the cadets, asking about their future goals, career interests, and aspirations. He also shared his personal connection to JROTC through his own family, making the discussion especially meaningful and relatable for the students.

The cadets also had the opportunity to view the Coast Guard Museum model and gain a glimpse into the rich history and future of our Service. Most importantly, they connected with members of the Chiefs Mess, who shared their personal Coast Guard journeys, career experiences, and advice for the next generation of leaders.

The DC CPOA is proud to support and inspire these exceptional young men and women as they continue their leadership development and represent the future of our nation. Bravo Zulu, cadets, and best of luck in the competition! 🇺🇸⚓️

Today, our DC CPOA Vice President and fellow members completed CPR recertification training, reinforcing a skill that can truly save lives. As Coast Guard members and leaders, maintaining proficiency in CPR and basic lifesaving techniques is essential, not only for our missions but also for our families, shipmates, and communities.

CPR recertification ensures that responders stay current on the latest techniques, build confidence in emergency situations, and remain prepared to act when every second counts. The skills learned in these courses can make a critical difference during a medical emergency, turning bystanders into lifesavers.

Thank you for setting the example and highlighting the importance of continuous training and professional readiness.

Semper Paratus — Always Ready. ⚓️🇺🇸

Today, we had the privilege of celebrating 106 years of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer. We were honored to be joined by Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Mr. Troy Edgar, Coast Guard Vice Commandant Admiral Thomas Allan, MCPOCG-R William Adams, Deputy MCPOCG Matthew Buckman, along with many Coast Guard officers, enlisted members, civilians, families, and friends as we came together to celebrate this proud tradition.

Despite the hot May weather in the DMV, it didn’t stop everyone from coming out to enjoy the day, share stories, reconnect, and make even more great Coast Guard memories.

A special thank you to the countless volunteers whose hard work and dedication made this event such a success. Your service and support truly made the day possible!
