At today’s meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to collective security and transatlantic cooperation.

The minister underscored Germany’s decision to reposition the German Navy’s FGS Fulda and FGS Mosel closer to the Strait of Hormuz to support maritime security, protect critical sea lanes, and contribute to regional stability.

He also reaffirmed Germany’s unwavering support for Ukraine. Germany will contribute $200 million to the PURL program to help procure U.S. air defense ammunition for Ukraine, and an additional $200 million through the JUMPSTART initiative to acquire PAC-3 interceptors for the PATRIOT air defense system.

Germany remains committed to working with its allies to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses and uphold security and stability wherever they are under threat.

Future diplomats in action! 🌍

Earlier this month, we joined members of our Embassy Adoption Program class from Garrison Elementary at the 2026 Mini United Nations conference, where students debated global issues, voted on resolutions, and heard from diplomats about the realities of international cooperation.

Working in teams of two, students presented policy proposals on migration and energy solutions, showcasing impressive research, critical thinking, and teamwork.

Thank you to all the students and organizers for an engaging day of diplomacy and learning!

Following the signing of the Joint Declaration of Intent with Pennsylvania, Yasmin Hilpert, our labor counselor, Susanne Metzler, from our science and research team and Carmen Esser from our Consulate General in New York continued their engagement with key partners in the field of skills and workforce development.

Visits to B. Braun and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Pennsylvania highlighted the depth of existing cooperation in apprenticeship and hands-on training.
Both institutions are long-standing leaders in preparing skilled workers—from advanced medical manufacturing at B. Braun to world-class electrical training through the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

The JDI provides a framework to build on these strong foundations and further expand collaboration in vocational education and training across the Atlantic.

A new chapter in Germany–Pennsylvania cooperation 🇩🇪🤝🇺🇸

In Harrisburg, Ambassador Hanefeld and Governor Shapiro signed a Joint Declaration of Intent to strengthen labor-supported apprenticeships, vocational training, and workforce exchange programs.

This partnership connects apprentices, educators, and industries across the Atlantic—opening doors to careers in technology, advanced manufacturing, and beyond.
Pennsylvania joins Florida & South Carolina in a growing network of German-US state partnerships.
