☀Summer is officially here.

In case of a heat wave alert, we want to remind our community that extreme temperatures can pose serious risks—especially for neighbors experiencing homelessness.

As temperatures rise across Washington, DC, access to water, meals, healthcare, shelter, and housing becomes even more critical. Heat waves can be dangerous, and taking steps to stay cool and hydrated can save lives.

At Miriam's Kitchen, our team is working every day to provide meals, outreach, housing support, and connections to essential resources that help our neighbors stay safe and healthy during periods of extreme heat.

During a heat wave, we invite you to join us in caring for our community. Whether through volunteering, advocacy, or a donation, your support helps ensure that everyone has the opportunity to find safety, stability, and a place to call home.

Together, we can respond with compassion, protect our neighbors, and bring hope during the hottest days of the year.

Here's to a summer of compassion, community, and hope.

Today, we honor Juneteenth and the enduring fight for freedom, dignity, and equity.

At Miriam’s Kitchen, we know that housing is more than a roof over someone’s head—it is a foundation for health, stability, and opportunity. As we work to end chronic homelessness in Washington, DC, we recognize that racial inequities have long shaped who has access to housing, healthcare, and economic opportunity.

Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is not only about liberation from oppression, but also about ensuring every person has the opportunity to thrive. Through housing, outreach, meals, healthcare connections, and advocacy, we remain committed to building a community where everyone has the support and resources they need to live with dignity.

Today, we celebrate Black resilience, leadership, and the ongoing work to create a more just and equitable future for all.

🇺🇸 This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

As we reflect on their courage and commitment, we are reminded of the importance of community, dignity, and compassion for one another.

At Miriam’s Kitchen, we remain committed to caring for our unhoused neighbors and building a future where everyone has a safe place to call home.

Today, we remember. We honor. We give thanks.

💚This year, we are honored to recognize food critic, community advocate, volunteer, and longtime friend of Miriam’s Kitchen, Tom Sietsema, as our 2026 Annual Celebration Honoree.

For years, Tom has used his platform to shine a light on the power of food, dignity, and community. But beyond his writing, Tom has shown up — volunteering, supporting our mission, and helping tell the story of why everyone deserves a place to call home.

Tom understands that at Miriam’s Kitchen, meals are more than nourishment — they are connection, dignity, and hope.

Join us as we celebrate a champion of our mission at Stronger Together: One City, Our Home on May 14 at Hook Hall.
