As DLCC Board Member and Pennsylvania Senator Vincent Hughes makes clear as we celebrate Juneteenth today: We must continue to work every day to create a more equal and equitable future for all.

In total, 245 openly LGBTQ+ lawmakers are serving in state legislatures across the country. Democratic lawmakers represent nearly all of them, with many serving in leadership positions!

These lawmakers work every day to ensure that they and their Democratic colleagues are in a strong position to fight back against GOP attacks and to make progress for Americans on the issues that matter most.

Today marks one year since Melissa and Mark Hortman were killed in a horrific act of political violence.

Melissa was our friend, our leader, and the greatest Speaker of the House in Minnesota’s history. She — along with Mark and their dog Gilbert — all lived lives defined by their service to others. They were kind, hopeful, and dedicated. They were the best of us.

We miss them every day. May we all work to honor their legacy.
