INSIDE THE CAB OF BIG BOY 4014

Headed out of Rochelle IL to West Chicago on UP 4014. I was invited as mayor of West Chicago, to ride into town on the Big Boy to kick off West Chicago’s summer long USA 250 celebration.

Here you see some of the behind the scenes work done by the engineer and fireman. It is loud and hot in the cab. You can see that they communicate with hand signals and noises. When the fireman opened the furnace to add sand it was too bright to look at and you could feel the heat pouring out.

West Chicago is a small town about an hour West of Chicago. We were the first rail junction in IL founded in 1847. We used to be known as Turner Junction. Join us for fresh produce, food or crafts at our weekly Mosaic Market Thursday evenings all summer long.
