FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LUANGWA TOWN COUNCIL CLARIFIES MISLEADING SOCIAL MEDIA CLAIMS REGARDING ROAD WORKS

Luangwa,Feira - 17th June, 2026

Luangwa Town Council has noted with concern a video circulating on social media alleging that the Council is undertaking road works specifically to provide access to a private residence belonging to a named Council employee.

The correct position is that Council has a program to grade, gravel and open up areas involving a total stretch of 30 kilometres within the Luangwa Township area. So far, works on 14 kilometres has commenced and done to various stages. These works were duly approved by Council before dissolution.

We are aware that officers of the Council may have property in areas of our operations, that fact should not stop us from undertaking the works that have already been planned to benefit residents in those areas.

Management wishes to caution members of the public from issuing unverified allegations against the Local Authority or indeed individual officers which may cause unnecessary alarm.

The contents of the video should therefore be dismissed as false, misleading, and malicious.

Luangwa Town Council remains focused on improving road infrastructure throughout the district and will continue implementing its road maintenance and development programme for the benefit of all residents.
