Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development Permanent Secretary Mrs Yvonne Mpundu today toured the Zambia Cooperative College in Lusakas Bauleni area an institution under the Ministry to appreciate it's potential towards skills development in the country.
The Permanent Secretary who was accompanied by Director in the Department of Cooperatives and Enterprenuership Development Dr.Mwinga, Cooperatives College Principal and Senior Members of the institution observed that the Cooperative College has potential for growth it's enrollment capacity and outreach program capacity.
Mrs. Mpundu stated that plans are under way to transform the College into an internationally competitive school of excellence.
The Permanent Secretary took time to tour the administration block, boarding facilities, leather shoe making block, printing Section, dairy and Poultry farm among others.
After the tour the Permanent Secretary encouraged the College Management team to become entrepreneurial and raise funds for the College and raise a profile for the institution that will stand competitive to other learning institutions.

Minister of Small and Medium Enterprise Development Elias Mubanga commissions the Mongu Industrial Yard.
The Mongu Industrial Yard is partially operational with 8 entrepreneurs currently occupying the workspaces. At full operational level the yard will have 17 entrepreneurs occupying 13 workshops, 2 kilns, 1 restaurant & 1 auto-booth

The Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development through Cooperative College has trained Cooperators in Namwala,Choma,Kafue and Chilanga Districts.
The College had embarked on a training needs assessment to find out the gaps that are there from the Cooperatives so that the trainings have an impact on the cooperators to better their performance.
As the trainings were being conducted at Cooperative College in the Main Hall for Kafue and Chilanga District Cooperators ,Namwala and Choma were also being trained at Namwala Town and Kabulamwaanda area.
The people of Kabulamwaanda flocked in great numbers compared to the invited participants such that there was no space for the cooperators to sit.
However,with the experienced trainers of Cooperative College and knowing the huge task that the College has been given,the training was done to ensure that all that came were engaged and taught.
This showed how much cooperators are thirsty for knowledge.
In Choma District,Mbabala Cooperators were trained in the areas of need.
The trainings for the districts based on the needs were conducted in Mindset Change, Governance,Financial Management, Business Planning,Value Chain Development,Conflict Resolution and Communication Skills.
The time has come for SME's and Cooperators to change their mindset and work together for a common new goal.
Zambia Cooperative College which is under the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development has well educated and experienced trainers who can handle tasks with practical solutions.
The College appreciates the continued and scaled up financial support from the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development.

ILO to collaborate with Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise development
Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development Permanent Secretary Yvonne Mpundu has thanked the International Labour Organization for rolling out the start and improve Business, Training of Masters Trainer programs aimed at supporting potential and existing entrepreneurs to create and sustain MSMEs as well as boost employment in the country.
Speaking today when she received a delegation from ILO lead by their Country Office Director for Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique Mr. George Okutho to discuss areas of collaborations, Mrs. Mpundu said government is committed to creating an enabling environment for MSMEs in Zambia.
Mrs. Mpundu said her Ministry is willing to collaborate with partners such as the ILO in ensuring support, growth and development of small and medium enterprises and cooperatives across all sectors.
She added that government through her Ministry is supporting Zambian MSMEs through the provision of loans, business development support services and other initiatives aimed at fostering growth in different sectors.
She pointed out that currently the Ministry through the citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) is providing different loan packages aimed at enhancing business growth.
And International Labour Organization Country Office Director for Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique George Okutho said ILO is ready to continue supporting the Zambian government and the MSMEs in ensuring they remain sustainable and viable at all times.
Mr. Okotho observed that Zambia like many other countries has a large number of MSMEs operating in various sectors and have largely contributed to the economy but still lacked skills support and appropriate financing to enable their businesses grow.
He assured the Ministry of support in ensuring the mandate set by government is achieved and people’s lives are improved.
Mr. Okuthu added that ILO has developed various programs aimed at supporting governments at various levels, ranging from supporting the MSMEs with the right skills set, occupation health at work place, work improvement among others.

Minister of Small and Medium Enterprise Development Hon. Engineer Elias Mubanga has continued to interact with people of North Western Province as he yours the province to appreciate the capacity of SMEs and Cooperatives as well as other stakeholders in supporting the growth of SMEs.
Today the Minister visited Kansanshi Mines where he was informed of the mines support to SMEs through capacity building and availing them with contractual works to enable enhance their growth .
And among districts visited so far is Ikelenge, mwinilunga, Zambezi , kalumbila, Kasempa, Chavuma and Mufumbwe districts.
The minister has since assured SMEs of government support through various empowerment programs that government has offloaded through the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission and the Constituency Development Fund.
